When
we kicked this project off in June 2003, we indicated that we could
keep the community updated on the project through this web site. The
following items show what has been done since that date:
During the winter site work continued when weather permitted. Now that warmer weather has returned the building is beginning to "come out of the ground" with the laying of the concrete block walls.
March 23, 2005. Alan Abraham, President of The Business, Industrial and Professional Association of Palmer Township presents a donation of $10,000 to Board of Supervisor members Dave Colver, Bob Lammi and Bob Smith along with Co-Chair Lee Boucher of the capital campagin committee. This is another example of the business community giving back to the communtiy |

January 26, 2005. The Palmer Township Kiwanis Club and the Palmer Township Kiwanis Foundation each donated $2,000 or a total of $4,000 to the Community Center. Dave Colver, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors accepts the donation from Bob Pretopapa. Following the presentation Dave provided a brief update of the Center and the fund raising.
December
15, 2004. With all the contracts let the construction on the Community
Center Building has begun. Current work includes bringing in stone
for the base which will be followed with the pouring of concrete
for the footers. The contractor's objective is to get this work done
before the end of the year so steel can be erected during the first
of next year. Because of the rain, snow and cold weather the contractor did not meet his objective. When warmer weather returns the contractor will again begin to pour concrete.
November
9, 2004. At its meeting on October 18th the Board of Supervisors
voted on its intent to award bids for the construction of the Community
Center building. This then allows the successful contractors to
present their insurance and bonds to the township for review and
acceptance. Work continues on the site with site leveling and the
installation of stormwater piping.
September
26, 2004. On this date the Palmer Township Community celebrated the
groundbreaking for the Charles Chrin Community Center of Palmer Township.
Approximately 200 people enjoyed the fine weather and festive atmosphere
at the site of the coming center. In the picture to the right the Board
of Supervisors along with the Co-Chairman of the capital campaign,
Bob Young and Lee Boucher and Charles Chrin officially break the ground
signifying the start of work.
Preliminary
work on the site has begun with the construction of the soil
erosion system which is designed to capture all water from the
site during a rain storm and allow the silt to settle before
the water discharges to the receiving stream.
Construction
bids for the center were opened on September 16th for the general
construction, plumbing, electrical and mechanical contracts.
Pidcock Company will review the bids and make recommendations
to the Board of Supervisors so the Board can award the contract. This
awarding is expected to take place by the end of October.
August
29, 2004. Preliminary work has begun
on the Community Center site with the moving of a major Easton Suburban
Water Authority water line. Because the current elevation of the line
would be in the way of excavation it had to be lowered. Chrin Company
is currently moving equipment to the site to begin the excavation work
within the next week. Bid packages for the building will be sent out
this coming week with bid opening schedule for mid September.
The groundbreaking ceremony for the Community Center Building
is scheduled for September 26th. Watch for further information.
The Business, Industrial
and Professional Association of Palmer Township hosted an informational
mixer about the Community Center project at Green Pond Country Club
on March 24th. During the mixer a presentation was made to those in
attendance. Following the presentation Barry Schaffer, President of
the Palmer Township Athletic Association presented a pledge check for
$50,000 to Board of Supervisors Chairman Dave Colver which will go towards
the Community Center Fund. The AA has provided a $10,000 check this
year and has pledged $10,000 per year for remaining four years.
A presentation was developed for use in making presentations at various
group functions like the Palmer Kiwanis, Lions Club, etc. To view this
presentation click here and when
the page is shown click on the "slide show" in the bottom
right corner. When the "slide show" begins you can advance
each slide by clicking your mouse. To exit the show hit Esc on your
key board. (Note: This is a large file and may be slow on dial-up connections
to the internet.)
The capital fund raising campaign has begun with donations and pledges
being received by the township with the funds being put into
a special community center account. To date approximately $560,000
has been received or pledged towards the $1,200,000 goal.
