1. Minute Approval:
Minutes from ESC meetings of April &
May approved (C. Oatis, R. Reese) with one change to May:
under Approval of Minutes, 2nd sentence, "May" to be changed to "March"
2. Single Hauler Issues:
- Bill Buskirk - not present
- Since B. Buskirk has not been present for a few months, C. Oatis will call him & & T. Ganssle will talked to Bob Anckaitis to see if he has heard from him
- L. Bonner asked about the freon in refrigerators when Waste Management takes them during white goods pick-up. R. Reese explained that it is in the contract that WM is responsible for the freon disposal
3. Recycling Coordinators Report
- C. Oatis explained that Tom Adams, newly hired Director of Public Works, Parks, Buildings & Grounds,
would be taking over her position as overseer of the 2 recycling centers and their employees. T. Ganssle
to call T. Adams and invite to next meeting
- 904 grant #s for 2003 will be completed soon and a report given at next meeting.
- Rewards for Business recycling was discussed
and T. Dittmar provided literature from
use this and other material she collected to draft a proposal for some meeting in the autumn. Cindy also
talked to a member of PROP (PA Recycling Organization) an offshoot of ANJR (Association of NJ
Recyclers) and wishes discussion of the awards at next meeting
3. Old Business
- Compost Seminar: T. Dittmar & C. Oatis spoke of the success of the past June 5th seminar - about 50
individuals participated. Tom stated that 860+ Palmer residents have experienced this event to date and
have taken earth machines. Tom gave thanks for his son and son's wife help and taking of pictures.
Those attending were a mixture of ages and established as well as new Palmer residents.
- T. Dittmar mentioned that he has noticed Palmer parks personnel using the green recycling containers for
use on the job other than recycling co-mingled materials and noted other safety violations of workers such as the wearing of shorts and the neglect of wearing safety glasses while weed-wacking. This will be brought to the attention of Tom Adams when he attends an ESC meeting.
- R. Reese mentioned that he did not yet get in touch with Ms. Swavely at AERC to discuss a electronic waste
pick-up for
Palmer. T. Ganssle will call
Bob was going to put on Palmer's website concerning the interest level of such. Denise Veres mentioned that there are local businesses that accept and recycle small electronic appliances.
- T. Ganssle asked old and new ESC members to please call or email him if they cannot make it to the current
ESC meeting because if there are many
people short of a quorum, the meeting could be cancelled.
- Community Weekend
- T. Ganssle will take care of lawn mowers again this year. One will be given away each of the weekend nights (Saturday & Sunday). C. Oatis volunteered to call Harry Smith, Director of Community Affairs, WMA, to see if WMA would pay for any part of mowers or provide other recycling give-aways for the weekend. D. Veres described a give-away basket to raffle off at the weekend. Committee members liked the idea so Denise volunteered to send specifics to Cindy in order for Cindy to order/purchase items appropriate for the basket.
- D. Veres mentioned that she has many recycling establishments in a data base at home and she will compile a list of these for the next meeting.
