Meeting Minutes – March 17, 2005

 

Attendees:  T. Ganssle, T. Dittmar, L. Bonner, R. Reese, N. Nicholas, C. Oatis, J. Stoneback

 

Guest:  Bill Buskirk, Residential Route Manager, WM/GCS

 

Approval of Minutes:

     Minutes were approved from the February  17, 2005, ESC meeting (T.G. & T.D.).

 

Hauler Issues:

     Bill Buskirk stated that Mgr. Bill Gallagher will put together a presentation for our next meeting explaining the totter service of WM.

J. Stoneback asked if the totter service would be less costly to the residents?  Bill said that Bill Gallagher will explain how it works.

     New calendars – A questions came up as to whether we have “unlimited” or a 6 can limit, 1 bulk item per week, 5 cans of yard waste—what should it be?  It will be printed in the corner of the post card.  Waiting for the labels to be made.

 

Recycling Coordinator’s Report:

     Cindy is working on the Municipal Grant.

     The 904 deadline upped.

     R. Reese asked Cindy to send the check for $600 to EAHS Student Council.  Cindy needs a breakdown  of what the refund is for.

     R. Reese to get the bikes out from the Recycling Center.

     T. Dittmar said we should advertise that we take scrap metal at the Recycling Center.  T. Ganssle suggested that we put something in the next Newsletter.

 

Old Business:

     Newsletter – J. Stoneback stated that the next Newsletter will be published the middle of May, with a deadline of April 20th.

     Composting Seminar will be September 17, 2005, starting at 9:00 A.M., and will be held at the Recycling Center.  T. Dittmar said we have about 20 bins—need about 70 for the seminar.

     E-cycling – T. Ganssle said we should start an ad campaign.  C. Oatis suggested that we get cards and flyers to distribute.  WM will commit  to absorb some of the funding.  T. Ganssle will get a new price list from Bonnie (AERC).  D. Veres’s article for the Newsletter was shortened.  Cindy will do brochures for e-cycling on the copier (multicolored) at the Municipal Building.  She will e-mail us a copy.  Tentative date for e-cycling is the fall. We should advertise in The Express-Times, The Morning Call, Community News, etc.  J. Stoneback stated that there will be two publications of the Palmer Newsletter before fall which can notify residents of the event.  We can also put a notice on the sewer bills.  J. Stoneback to notify Val (Sewer Billing).

     Community Days Booth:  Sub-committee (T.G., T.D., C.O., J.S.) will meet an hour before the next ESC meeting.  T. Dittmar suggested a battery operated mower.

     BSC grants, Greenway:  R. Reese reported that on April 23, “Hands Across the Bushkill” will be held.  It involves cleaning up the creek from the Bushkill to Bear Creek and will be held from 8:30 to 12:30, starting at the banks of the Bushkill in Palmer Township.  C. Oatis asked if the ESC should participate?  She also mentioned that we should get pictures for the Palmer Newsletter.

     Earth Day:  April 22 is Earth Day.

 

New Business:

     Bike Path Brochures:  R. Reese reported nothing new on the brochure.

     PEC/DCNR:  Conference to be held April 11, 2005, at 4:00 P.M. at LVP.  Topic to be Conserving Local Natural Systems.

 

Next Meeting:  April 21, 2005, at the Palmer Municipal Building, at 7:00 P.M.
