Recycling Coordinator Report

Single-stream recycling:

Plastics #1- #7 (Todd Heller/Greenstar) is coming on board with commercial and residential single-stream recycling.  This means that all plastics #1-#7, newspaper, office paper, cardboard, cans and bottles can be put into one container at curbside.  Knowing that the City of Easton is going forward with single stream and that is would be a great boon to recycling in Palmer, Cindy O. contacted Todd Heller who confirmed that this program will get started in mid-March.  Rob N. said that he will schedule a meeting for Pat Mascaro, Jr. to discuss this with Cindy O.  ESC would need assurance that the current contract with Mascaro and Greenstar is as long as Palmer’s contract with Mascaro.

E-cycling

AERC has agreed to hold the May 3rd e-cycling event at EAHS.  Bob L. said that local business Puritan Products, who allocates some money every year for communities, would donate $2K for the e-cycling event.  Puritan is asking for a news release and recognition as a sponsor.  The Cindy O. will ask Mascaro to sponsor as well.  As of Monday, we should have secured the Kunkel Area for the May 3rd e-cycling event.  SAVE students will do flyers and put an announcement on the Easton Area school district website and Friday Update.

Easton Area Elementary School Initiative

Cindy O. is working with elementary schools in Easton to bring in single stream recycling to improve overall recycling in the schools.  She had hoped to do this by the current paper recycler taking to Greenstar,  but this has not worked because Greenstar would be beyond  their mileage range from Easton.
