Palmer Township EAC – Meeting Minutes

Environmental Steering Committee

June 23, 2010

        

Attendees: Tom Ganssle, Chris Briglia, Cindy Oatis, Rob Reese, Denise Veres, Tom Dittmar, John Balas, Dave Sciascia, John Orlock

 

Meeting opened:  7:10 PM

 

Approval of Minutes:  1) May 26, 2010 minutes were approved unanimously with one revision.

 

Guests:  Rob N. (Mascaro Hauling)

 

Hauler Report:  1) Rob N. was present and also had the following comments and/or suggestions:

 

1.       Rob mentioned that J.P. Mascaro will sponsor whatever we want them to for Palmer Community Days.  Lindsey Mascaro should be contacted by the ESC to coordinate this. 

2.       Year-round yard waste pick-up was discussed.  The frequency of pick-up was debated (i.e. weekly, monthly, etc.).

3.       Cindy O. mentioned the First Regional Compost Authority and that several towns are participating.  She suggested that Palmer could also participate.

 

Recycling Coordinator Report:  Cindy Oatis was present and also had the following comments and/or suggestions:

 

1.       Cindy O. discussed Corporate Sustainability Programs and that they are very popular now.  She will research the programs more in the near future.

2.       Cindy O. mentioned that she is updating the Township flyers and brochures prior to Palmer Community Days.

 

Old Business:

 

1.       Bob L. is looking into free dumping at the Township Compost Center for ESC members.

2.       Palmer Days sub-committee progress was discussed and August 19 - 22, 2010 are the established dated for the event.

3.       Rob R. mentioned that there is a native plant seminar planned at Rosalino's in October.  Date to be set in the near future.

4.       Rob R. mentioned that a native plant seminar will be held at Rossalino's on October 2, 2010 at 9:00am

 

New Business:

 

1.       Tom D. mentioned that the back yard compost seminar is set for September, 2010.  Tom D. will look into prices for the compost machines.

2.       Denise V. discussed the status of the energy audit.

 

Announcements:  Dave S. mentioned the Green Audit and inquired whether or not the Township would be interested in participating.

Next Meeting: The next meeting is scheduled for July 28, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Palmer Township Municipal Building.
