PALMER TOWNSHIP RECREATION BOARD

MAY 16, 2006

The regular monthly meeting of the Palmer Township Recreation Board was held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. with all members in attendance except Young and McBrairty.  Also present was Supervisor/Liaison Bob Smith and AA President Barry Schaffer.  Chairman Walker convened the meeting.

MINUTES FROM APRIL MEETING – On motion by Bellis, seconded by Nielsen, and agreed by all, the minutes from the April meeting were approved.

TREASURER’S REPORT – On motion by Bellis, seconded by Worley, and agreed by all, the treasurer’s report was approved as distributed.

      REPORTS –

Baseball – A discussion was held on tournament teams.  It was agreed that the Athletic Association will not sponsor tournament teams and any such teams formed will not use township equipment.

Basketball – Commissioner for this season is not returning.  Schaffer will check to see if the AA paid the referee fees.  They must be reimbursed.

Budget – In good shape so far.

Egg Hunt – Nielsen reported that the plastic eggs were cheaper than what was spent in prior years.

Softball – A Palmer team is being observed because they have won all their games.  League rules state that teams are to be equal.  Superior teams are not allowed in play-offs.

Wrestling – Held picnic at Penn Pump Park.

Cheering – Good turn this season.

Football – Bellis wanted to know who contacts the equipment manager.  This was discussed.

Playground – Nielsen noted that the program is ready for the summer.  The field trip will be to the Franklin Institute and Friday’s are special days for special activities.

OLD BUSINESS –

Board feels there should be an open line of communication with the new equipment manager to ensure he follows Recreation Board procedures.

Smith reported that new tires are needed for the gator and he is looking for a drag to do the fields.  The refreshment stand has been cleaned out and will be opened.  They sold refreshments from the gator and did very well.  Fences and backstops have been budgeted and need to be installed.  Will need to check for fencing at Briarcliffe and check with the baseball commissioner.

On motion by Bellis, seconded by Worley, and agreed by all, the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
