Minutes for Recreation Board – September 20, 2009

 

Present: Young, Knox, Walker, Nielson, Webb

 

Called to order at 7:42

 

Minutes accepted on motion by Young second by Walker.

 

Treasurer’s Report – Noted that monies cannot be transferred from one line item to another.  Report approved on motion by Walker, second by Young.

 

Public Comment – None

 

Adult Recreation – Adult Soccer tournament cancelled due to rain.

 

Baseball – NR

 

Basketball – Practice times have been scheduled with CCCP, there will be no games scheduled there that do not involve a Palmer team.

 

Budget – All budgets are in except for football and basketball.

 

Egg Hunt – NR

 

Maintenance – Bob Smith – there was a possible staph infection involving a football player.  Practice was cancelled for three days while all equipment and uniforms, as well as, the entire building were properly disinfected by an outside contractor.  Options are being investigated for cleaning practice uniforms.  Currently they are washed once per week.  Options that are being explored include contracting for their regular cleaning or having each player take the practice gear home each night.  The parents of the player have chosen not to release the results of the players medical testing.  It is unknown if there was a staph infection present.  Three fans were purchased for $500 from the Maintenance budget.  Knox asked if other programs contract for uniform cleaning.  Smith stated that would have to be determined.  Young stated that the township should not budget for washing uniforms.

 

Outfield fence at Fairview has been moved back to allow the field to be shifted away from local roadways.  There are current efforts to get prices for light fixtures for the existing poles.

 

Softball – NR

 

Wrestling – Sign ups are currently underway.

 

Cheering – Signs were requested but not purchased because they are not an item that is collected and returned to the township equipment manager.

 

Football – NR

 

Playground – NR

 

Soccer – Tournament went well with a profit of nearly $3000, season is underway.

 

Lacrosse – NR

 

Development – Passing a recommendation to the Supervisors to use land below Fox Run as Passive Recreation area.

 

Community Center – There is a new tennis program beginning with registrations in October.  The program will run for 7 Saturdays.  Overall a good program cycle for the Center as several program were sold out.

 

New Business – None

 

Old Business – Walker asked if the Capital Committee for the AA, Recreation Board and Supervisors had been formed.  It had not and was awaiting final approval of fee structure.

 

Young requested that a letter be sent to LVBA stating that the fields must be reserved for usage by organized teams.
