Township of Palmer
List of Recent Green Initiatives to Reduce Energy Consumption
- Conversion of traffic signal bulbs to LED’s (approximately 80% energy savings).
- Conversion of the remaining 261 mercury vapor street lights to high pressure sodium lights (approximately $9600/year energy savings). This street light conversion was approved by the Township and it was competed by Med-Ed at no cost to Palmer Township.
- Conversion of Parks Building service bay lights from mercury vapor to high intensity fluorescent. This project was budgeted for 2011 and is scheduled to be completed by September, 2011.
- Installation of variable speed controllers on the Palmer Community Pool’s main filter pumps. This will significantly reduce start-up amperage, and allow the pumps to run at a reduced speed at night when chlorination and filtering requirements allow (estimated 16% savings for filtering electricity costs).
- The Charles Chrin Community Center and the Palmer Township Municipal Building have “programmable” thermostats to reduce heating and cooling usage and costs.
- Began a program which is available to all Departments, making 26 watt compact fluorescent bulbs available for substitution for 100 watt incandescent bulbs.
- The proposed Public Works/Public Utilities building will be designed with programmable thermostats for the office area and with high intensity fluorescent fixtures in the service bays.
