In the past the Two Rivers Council of Governments, Palmer Township Environmental Steering Committee and Northampton County have sponsored an Electronic Recycling Events at the EAHS Parking Lot. Another event is being planned for Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 9 am to 2 pm. So please begin to store your discarded electronic "junk". For those of you who will be disposing of your television because of the change to digital please don't throw it in the trash but rather store it and bring it to the ecycling event. This year there will be no charge for the electronic waste. There will be a charge of $0.75/lb. for batteries and $0.25 each for fluorescent lamps. After January 2013, state law will not allow any electronic waste to be pick-up at the curbside and placed in landfills.
By participating, you will be conserving natural resources and protecting the environment from significant amounts of heavy metals found in electronic equipment that are poisonous to human health and the environment. To read more about electronic recycling and keeping these items out of the waste stream read the EPA publication - Electronics: A New Opportunity for Waste Prevention, Reuse, and Recycling. Northampton County Department of Community and Economic Development is coordinating this event along with events in two other locations in the county. October 6, 2012, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm Northampton County will be holding their Household Hazardous Waste Drop-off Event at Northampton Community College Main Campus Parking Area in Bethlehem Township.
